The MAG i-6 is a
full-featured card access controller in the i-series. It features the use of
fast static RAM (Random Access Memory) and a high-end microprocessor, the HC12,
from Motorola. This makes searching a 6000 card database easy giving a
sub-second respond even if the card was the last in the list.
The
controller is fully configurable from software making programming the controller
an easy task. With its RS422 bus, and its Industrial Grade Error Checking
algorithm, the MAG i-6 is highly reliable in its transfer of data making data
loss during transmission almost impossible.
The
controller’s wiegand characteristics is configurable making integration to
most card readers and biometric readers a simple task. Nonetheless, wiegand
devices are not the only devices the MAG I-6 controller can use. It has a
RS232/RS422 port for reader devices that communicate that way.
This
controller is particularly suited for use in a demanding security environment.
It has a comprehensive time-zone mechanism that includes a separate time zone
for holidays, and it has 366 definable holidays. This mechanism governs when
someone can have access, when Personal Identification Numbers are required for
access and even when its alarm monitoring inputs are armed or disarmed.
The
MAG i-6 features four of this inputs that can double up as inputs to other
functions depending on how the controller is configured. For example, one of
these alarm inputs can be configured as a fire-alarm input. It can be connected
directly to a relay under the control of a fire-panel and will release the door
when it is activated. Yet, operating in a different configuration, the same
alarm-input can be configured to monitor the fire-panel’s relay, report the
activation to the computer and allow the computer to decide whether or not to
release the door.
The
MAG I-6 features a Two-Door mode that allows the single controller to control
two doors. In this mode, both the readers function as entry readers and a push
button is used for the exit. Apart from the Two-Door mode, the controller can be
configured in Car Park Control mode. In
this mode, the relays are redefined for use as the entry barrier and exit
barrier gate control relays. The alarm points are redefined for use as the
Arming Loop input.
The
MAG i-6 databases and setup can be up loaded as well as down loaded. This means
that with a software like the Microplus Lite, one can completely control the MAG
i-6 device, configuring it to behave in some intended way. At the same time, the
software can use whatever information already programmed in the MAG i-6 to
recover itself in the event of a hard drive crash.
Even
when it comes to communications, the MAG I-6 can use different communications
method and media. It is shipped standard with a IEC 422/485 communications
channel. However, it can also have a direct IEEE 802.3 (LAN) connection or even
a fiber optics connection.
There
are much more that MAG i-6 can do and for this reason it is used only in the
most demanding security applications.
